How Can You Apply?
It is possible to easily apply for Medicare on the Internet while filing for disability or retirement. You can also apply for only Medicare if you do not wish to receive the retirement benefits.
- If you don’t want to apply online, it is possible to make an appointment by simply calling 1-800-772-1213. If you’re hearing impaired, you can give a call on ‘TTY’ number – 1-800-325-0778.
- In case you’ve been receiving Social Security benefits, you will be instantly and automatically enrolled in Medicare (Both Parts A and B).
Since you’re required to pay a standard premium for Medicare Part B coverage, you can turn it down. A few weeks before you’re eligible for Medicare, you will receive an email or postal mail with detailed information about the process. It is worth mentioning that residents of Puerto Rico and Foreign countries don’t automatically receive Part B coverage. They need to choose this benefit.
